Wisconsin Film Festival - Day 7 (better late than never)

KEY OF LIFE
directed by Kenji Uchida (Japan 2012)
LC rating: 4/5

It is difficult to write a comedy that is a real crowd-pleaser, comedy being less universal than tragedy and whatnot.  This tends to make stereotypes seem more forgivable in a comedic setting, and as far as I can tell there's nothing wrong with that.  There is nothing particularly original or extraordinary in this film, but I think it's the first foreign comedy I've seen in a theater with an American audience where pretty much everyone was laughing at the same moments, and genuinely.  Also, the casting for and acting in the lead female role, a Liz Lemon-esque character with the exact right amount of high-pitched nasal quality in her voice, is nearing phenomenal.
